The Thai People
The "Wai"

Much in the same way people in the west greet one another with a hand shake, the typical greeting of the Thai is called the "wai". Hands are folded in a prayer-like fashion at the chest and a slight bow of the head is made. Touching others (as in a handshake) is not common, and in many instances, frowned upon or considered a breech of etiquette.
The wai is also an important means of showing respect to others. One's age and station in life are acknowledged with the wai and it is always used to acknowledge thanks.

Nevertheless, the Thai are warm and friendly people. That reputation has earned them the motto of being...
